Pink Sky at Night 11x14
This series of seascapes is done with fluid painting as base, then details are added with a brush. Fluid, or Acryliic Paint Pouring involves mixing the paint with additives to thin it it to the consistancy of warm honey, so that it pours easily. Dimethecone is added to create "cells" or textural bubbles. I pour the various shades of water, sky, and beach onto the canvas and manipulate it with a spatula. Whitecaps are added with a stick, then the canvas is tilted for the paint to flow and move into the shapes I want. After it dries a few days, I go back in and work on the picture with my brushes, getting more details in the waves, a straight horizon line, and some clouds.
Each painting is a one of a kind piece, and some have more cells than others. Some of them get more brushwork than others, I try to not interfere with the cells that form, and if I do need to clean up an area with handpainting, I incorporate as much of the original pour as i can.
Since computer screens can change color tones, I'll try to describe the colors to help you get an accurate idea of what your new piece will look like when you get it in person.
I've loved creating these ocean scenes, and hope you enjoy them too. They are influenced by trips I've taken to Maui, Coronado Beach, Siesta Key, St Augustine, Nag's Head, Bahamas, and more. I'm enamored of watching the sky and water change with the whims of a day, and have done my best to interpet some of my favorite memories of some of the best views.
If you'd like to try one of your own, I have a (badly edited) youtube video that explains the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdh5kSmHCyI&t=6s
Each of these is done on a wrapped canvas, which can be hung as is, or framed. You can see some of the paintings framed and hung here: http://karlascottage.typepad.com/karlascottage/2018/06/a-serene-mini-redo-for-the-master-bedroom.html

"Pink Sky at Night" is crazy with strong cell formation, including a deep pink under the waves that peeks through the vivid navy and ture blues. The sky retains a lot of cells as well as handpainted clouds and a setting sun.
